Dry Sift Screen Incoming Inspection: Define the Sampling Scope

How many dry sift screens should you check when a wholesale shipment arrives? There is no universal number that can be selected from the carton count alone. Define the inspection lot, identify the variants it contains and agree the sampling and acceptance rules before delivery. Checking the first accessible frame is not the same as a planned inspection.

This guide helps buyers define the scope of incoming inspection for dry sift screens. The screen quality checklist addresses what to examine; this article addresses which units are examined, how the result is recorded and what that result can support.

Define a lot before selecting a sample

A delivery is a transport event, not necessarily one uniform inspection lot. It may contain different frame sizes, apertures, colors or production references. Record the purchase order, supplier item, approved specification revision, quantity and available production identifiers. If production information is unavailable, record that limitation rather than assigning an invented manufacturing batch.

The 16 × 20 inch listing describes polyester mesh and aluminum frames, with individual and bundle purchases. That means an order may contain several selected variants even when every frame has the same nominal dimensions. Inspecting one aperture variant does not automatically provide evidence about the others.

Separate identity checks from measured properties

Receiving checks can include quantity, item identification, visible damage, dimensions and documentation. More specialized checks may concern mesh aperture or tension. Each needs its own method and scope. A photograph showing intact mesh does not verify aperture accuracy, and a passing dimension check does not verify the bond.

Write a short inspection schedule listing the characteristic, reference document, method, equipment, selected units and acceptance rule. Identify checks that your receiving team cannot perform so you can request supplier evidence or arrange qualified inspection instead of silently marking them as passed.

Make sample selection reproducible

Record how cartons and frames are selected. Access to different carton positions may require unpacking arrangements; agree how inspected items will be protected and repacked. Avoid choosing only the most accessible or best-looking frames. Where random selection is required by the agreed plan, retain the selection record.

A hypothetical delivery of 60 frames containing three variants of 20 frames each illustrates the problem: a sample drawn entirely from the first variant provides no direct inspection observations for the other two. These numbers are not a recommended sample size or an EXTRACTPHYTO packing standard. Have the responsible quality team define a defensible plan for the actual order.

Agree decisions as well as measurements

  • Which observations require an immediate hold?
  • What acceptance and rejection rules apply to each characteristic?
  • Who may authorize additional inspection or a concession?
  • What happens if documentation is missing even when appearance is acceptable?
  • How will affected units and uninspected stock remain identifiable?

A sampling plan should be chosen with the consequences of a missed defect in mind. If a formal statistical plan is required, specify the exact agreed reference and its parameters with qualified quality personnel. A small informal spot check should not be described as certification or proof that every unit conforms.

Report the denominator and the unresolved items

Write “two frames showed edge lifting among twelve examined” rather than “two defective frames in the shipment” when the rest were not checked. Record the total lot quantity, inspected quantity, selection method, observations and disposition separately. A sample observation is not a reliable estimate of the shipment-wide defect rate without an appropriate statistical basis.

For attachment observations, use the bonded-edge inspection guide to record locations and photographs. Keep uncertain units on hold until the agreed decision is documented. If sorting or corrective work is approved, retain the original findings and the subsequent inspection result.

Does supplier inspection replace receiving inspection?

Not automatically. Compare its scope, sampled units, methods and date with your purchase requirements. It may support acceptance, but it does not show whether damage occurred later in transit. Decide which incoming checks remain necessary and record that decision.

Request an order-specific quotation

EXTRACTPHYTO is a China-based manufacturer of botanical separation equipment. Send your requirements with your company, quantity, destination and your variant list and proposed inspection scope. Ask which records and inspection services can be supplied and confirm their cost and lead time in writing.
